Bighorn River Flyfishing: PMDs soon?

by mtangler on June 28, 2010

Lately, anglers have been seeing a few PMD duns marching down river; and the nymphs are showing up in trout stomach samples as well. Don’t get too excited, as the hatch hasn’t been a major factor in years, but they have provided decent dry fly fishing in August, and we’re hoping that the hatch will return to its former strength. PMD nymphs are always significant. You’ll notice a couple of them in the right side of Dave Palmer’s hand, along with the sowbugs. The Bighorn Trout Shop has several PMD nymph patterns that work very well. We’ll include pictures in a later post.
