Terrestrials – Bighorn River Hatch Information

Bighorn River Terrestrials

Flying Ant

Terrestrials – At the height of the summer season trout start looking to the surface for terrestrials blowing into the water.   The trout can get very keyed into these meaty morsels at the right times.  Beetles and flying ants are present from July through September.  At times you can see clouds of flying ants in the air.  Carry ant patterns in both black and cinnamon color.

Bighorn River Fishing Tip:  Flying Ant and Beetle patterns are great searching patterns during warm summer days and provide good surface action.  Blind fishing these patterns in likely spots will get you bent.
